When Mike Bickle launched International House of Prayer in 1999, I never would have suspected it to such a far reach globally. I also never dreamed that we would ever become a House of Prayer ourselves. In fact, I had no clue there was an International House of Prayer until around 2004. The only connection I had with Mike Bickle was through his books on prophetic ministry when our church community was (and still are) “flowing in the river”.
When I say, “a traditional church” I am referring to structure not necessarily style. I understand that styles come and go, yet I believe structures live on for centuries.
It’s always enjoyable to discuss the House of Prayer reality with good friends over a great lunch. That is exactly what happened last week. I shared our history of moving more intentionally from a ministry focused church to an intimacy focused church. There were lots of great questions as my friends were exploring this reality for their own ministry.
I don’t think that the local church and the House of Prayer were ever meant to be separated. God is converging both.
In looking back at the process of our own convergence, I have identified at least twelve key steps that helped us move into our present reality.
For the many Pastors and church leaders who are praying about converging their local church with the House of Prayer I hope our journey is helpful to you.
