Finding Inspiration From The Ant

Prov. 6:6   Take a lesson from the ants…Learn from their ways and be wise!

I never look at ants to learn from them. If spotted, I pound them into eternity. But the Bible says that we can learn from their ways and be wise. Yes, the ant made it to the canon of scripture so there are a few things about them that God wants us to learn from.

If you ever purchased an ant farm you will notice that the ant gets right to work on a dream. They immediately begin to work together. They build. They create. In time their own little city is constructed.

How do they do it?

Ants build a city by moving one small, seemingly insignificant grain of sand at a time. Many tiny steps, one step at a time, one grain at a time, one minute at a time. They are relentless. They keep moving forward. When an obstacle arises they innovate, create a solution and keep going.

How The Ant Can Inspire Us

For you and me the ant can teach us something about achieving a dream and reaching our goals. How so? The ant continues to relentlessly move forward! Each grain of sand moved gets them closer to achieving their dream. They refuse to get discouraged, they refuse to stay overwhelmed, they just keep working!

Perspective Is Everything

If  the ant looks at the grain of sand and says it is not a city it will never achieve its goal. The grain is ultimately the city. What appears insignificant is actually the very thing that sees the goal to completion.

Great achievements are the result of hundreds, even thousands, of smaller ones. That which appears insignificant is the very thing that gets us to achieving our dreams. For you it might not be a city, but a marriage, finances, a book, a friendship, a project, career or ministry. The list is endless.

What’s important is finding inspiration from the ant. Grab a piece of grain and keep moving on your dream.

Question: What is one life dream, project or goal are you currently going after?

Great post Greg! I love the perspective of how they never get discouraged, but just keep working and find a way around any obstacle. Very motivating for me!

Hello Pastor I am really onto job searching after campus and today I have been asking God what He says or feels when He looks at me and sees I have not secured one. I am encouraged by this post about ants that they are patient and persist. God bless you.
