The Power of Your Writing. A Simple Testimony

I just wanted to share a simple testimony about a few blog posts I have written and how God is using them. I hope this encourages you to continue moving forward with your own writing.

Recently, I received an email from the Los Angeles Urban Project. I really did not know these guys but after hitting their website, I discovered that LAUP is a Christian based organization training students to reach the poor in Los Angeles county.  LAUP has been faithfully serving the Los Angeles urban area since 1981. Amazing!  I love what LAUP is doing and their faithfulness to see it done.

Here is the email I received from Erna.

My name is Erna.

I’m the director of the Los Angeles Urban Project.

I wanted your permission to use portions of your posts on how we hear from God as part of our summer curriculum. We would cut and paste portions of the three blog posts- edit out a bit- to shorten the overall length of the article. But we would not add content. Would this be OK with you?

Our team leaders will be using your article to help our interns practice listening prayer. They will read your article and then do a listening prayer exercise on each other. I thought your writing was both accessible but not over simple. I’m grateful to be able to share it with our students.

Of course, I agreed wholeheartedly to allow Los Angeles Urban Project to use these blog posts and trust that God uses them to teach and add value to others for His glory.

The Power of Your Writing

As bloggers/writers God is using what we humbly write to add value to others. I know there are those of you who can share similar stories.

So let me urge you to keep writing. Seek to bless and add value to others as you glorify God with what He gives you.

I also sense that there are those of you who want to start a blog of some kind. Let me urge you to just start. If there is any way I can help you please let me know. I’d be happy to share what I have learned.

It’s so exciting when God uses our writings to touch other’s lives when we least expect it. I’ve had a few occasions myself like this. My prayer is that I would remain humble and “other’s focused” as I write for His glory. Thanks for sharing the testimony!

Hi Barbie. So glad that you have spent the last several years going for it with your blog. I think you and I started blogging at the same time and you have over 700 posts and I haven’t even reached 70. lol. I know you love what you do!

Soooo cool! Just the beginning…I love that “Promotion comes from the Lord” and its about time the world discovered!! The LAUP which is IVCF (InterVarsity Christian Fellowship) – is so legit & I’m sure will touch a lot of people!! May God bless their work in LA this summer! I also receive that Word to “write” totally for me!

Hello Violet Orchid. Thanks so much for the encouragement! I love how the Lord takes what we write to create value for others. Regarding receiving the Word to write, just go for it. You are amazingly gifted and God will take what you write to bless many!

It also blesses me tremendously when I get a comment or email about how my blog has blessed someone. Specifically, I was contacted my someone about some resources I created that they printed and used to teach kids how to hear God’s Voice. They told me they used it with their own kids and their entire Sunday School Class! That really blessed my heart and encouraged me to continue getting resources out that God has put on my heart 🙂

Gina. No surprises here. You provide great content. What is a surprise is the need for others to have resources on “hearing God’s voice.” I encourage you to keep writing. 🙂

    Wow this is amazing Greg!
I’m really inspired by your writing.
How did you get started? Any books/resource recommend?
    Thanks Greg!

Hello Andrew. My Church Staff convinced me to start blogging. They had worked on me for quit awhile until I finally caved in. For some reason the word “blogging” felt a bit non-professional, writing sounded better. So I kinda “dragged my feet” about blogging. But I have come to realize that blogging is digital writing and digital writing can be consumed by anyone around the world who has internet access. My blog has been view in over 140 countries.

Regarding books/resources to use. I read one or two books on blogging but they did not really help much. What was helpful (and still is) are solid blogs that cover blogging either in a series or dedicating their entire blog to the subject. Here are a few. Problogger, Michael Hyatt, John Saddington, Blogging Basics.

This has me thinking about the possibility of doing a series on “how I got started blogging”. It’s was quite a hilarious journey. What do you all think?
